John Wilson, MFT.

The true essence of humankind is kindness. There are other qualities which come from education or knowledge, but it is essential, if one wishes to be a genuine human being and impart satisfying meaning to one’s existence, to have a good heart. Tenzin Gyatso, The 14th Dalai Lama

John Pradies Wilson was born in Barcelona, Spain and growing up spent his summers in Spain.  As a result, he has native level fluency in Spanish and English. His immersion in Mediterranean culture with its emphasis on family time and extended family involvement became the basis of his interest in family therapy. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology from University of Maryland in 1988, and his Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2008 from Iona University.  He also received training in Divorce Mediation in 2010. He worked in diverse settings from community mental health centers to correctional facilities to private practices. Although he counsels a variety of populations, his treatment approach focuses on the family unit using structural and strategic family therapy approach. He has extensive experience helping couples and families in distress, and he particularly enjoys the challenges of treating children, adolescents and teens, having a natural gift for establishing easy rapport with youth and often serving the role of their mentor.
